Project Highlights:

Key Events

• November 2011: Start of the pilot project phase with an investment of approximately $84 million.
• November 2014: Completion of the pilot project, successfully capturing and sequestering 1 million tonnes of CO₂.
• November 2017: Commencement of Phase 2, significantly expanding capacity with a total investment of around $208 million.
• As of 2019: IL-CCS recognized as the world's largest BECCS project, capable of capturing over 1 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Carbon Capture Technology: WHO??? Hot Potassium Carbonate (HPC) - CO₂ from flue gases interacts under pressure with a water-based solvent containing potassium carbonate to form potassium bicarbonate. Reducing the pressure reverses the reaction, releasing CO₂ for capture, and water.
